Health is Wealth

Urban slums, like refugee communities, comprise a social cluster that engenders a distinct set of health problems. With 1 billion people currently estimated to live in such communities across the globe, this neglected population has become a major reservoir for a wide spectrum of health conditions that the formal health sector must deal with. Continued neglect of ever-expanding urban slum populations in the world could inevitably lead to greater expenditure and diversion of health care resources to the management of end-stage complications of diseases that are preventable. A new approach to health assessment and characterization of social-cluster determinants of health in urban slums is urgently needed.

ROSHNI also tries to put small but persistent efforts in this matter, on 27th December 2022, ROSHNI organized a Free Health Check-up Camp in Sonia Vihar, North-East Delhi. Over 100 needy people were helped during the camp as 2 teams of Doctors and Nurses were appointed from Dr. Chaudhry’s Moral Hospital, Yamuna Vihar and Eye7 Chaudhry Eye Centre, Lajpat Nagar. An enthusiastic team of ROSHNI Staff and Volunteers could be seen assisting the Doctors throughout the day. The Health Camp was brought together with the valuable support Shubh Tradex Pvt. Ltd. in the humble presence of Smt. Soni Pandey, Councillor.
